My First Award :)

LiebsterAwardWow, I’ve been blogging since 2008 and have never been nominated for an award before!  I feel so honored.  Mostly because the blogger who nominated me seems to be quite a kindred spirit, and I love that kindred spirits are reading and enjoying my blog.  Thank you Betsy from Betsy’s Baby!  I was nominated for the Liebster Award, which is meant to be given to bloggers who have less than 200 followers and who you believe deserve some recognition.

The Rules:

-You must answer the 11 questions set by the blogger who nominated you

-You yourself then pick 11 blogs who in turn have under 200 followers

-You must think of 11 questions for the blogs you have picked and also tell them

-You must link back to the blog that nominated you

-Write 11 facts about yourself

So here we go!

1. Where did you get the name of your blog?  It is borrowed from the name of my Etsy shop.  I know, I know, “sewist” is not technically a real word.  But it sounded so cute, and much better than “The Vintage Home Seamstress”.  You will have to forgive me, my English-loving friends.

2. Why do you blog?  I began blogging back in 2008 as a way to share my creative projects, musings, and adventures with my 11 younger siblings.  Writing has always been a passion of mine, and blogging seemed like a fantastic way to keep my skills sharp while also sharing my passions with others who had similar interests.

3. What’s something we couldn’t know about you from just reading your blog?  I used to be a ballerina.

4. What is a blogging goal you have?  To be real, to write according to my true beliefs, and never to bow to the temptation to write a blog about something sensational merely for views and clicks.

5. Where are you from?  Born and raised in GA, although people always think that I am native to someplace else because I have no southern accent. (My mom is a native Californian, and forbid us to ever say “aint” or “ya’ll”.)

6. Who or what inspires you?  Different people and things inspire me in different stages and moods in my life.  Right now I have been going through my annual rainy-day British period romance movie phase.  I’m thankful that I have a small toddler to keep me busy, or I would most likely be wasting my days away lying on the couch with popcorn, tea and a BBC Jane Austen 24/7 right now.  That said, I do have things that inspire me all the time.  Good music–and I mean good, raw, beautiful, tasteful, unique music.  Theology.  G.K. Chesterton.  Being outside.  Working with my hands.  Seeing the creative work of other people’s hands.  Home and hearth.  And right now, the beautiful journey of pregnancy.

7. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?  I used to say as soon as I grew up I’d move out of Georgia, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to really love these old north Georgia mountains, and I’m not so sure I would want to leave them.  I would, however, love to live someplace exotic for a short time (by exotic I mean foreign, like southern France or London or Germany)…as long as we could come back to our little homestead in the mountains.

8. What do you hope most for your future?  That the turmoil in this country and world would be brought to peace, and that my children will have a beautiful place to grow up and live in and be a part of as adults.

9. How has blogging changed you?  It keeps me accountable to finishing projects!

10. What color is your kitchen? Robin’s egg blue.

11. What do you see out your window?  An unusually snow-and-ice-covered landscape that is our front yard.

11 Facts About Me:

1. I am a devout Christian.  2. My mother is 1/2 Italian, which makes me 1/4 Italian (however I only inherited the brown eyes and olive skin–I look like my dad!)  3. I am the oldest of 12 kids.  My youngest sibling (my brother Cael) is 5 years old.  4. I fell in love with my husband when we were in high school.  He fell in love with me when we were 23, after being engaged to someone else.  At least he finally figured it out.  5. My favorite decade for vintage fashion is the 30’s.  6. I began raising goats in 2010, when I thought I would never ever get married and I might as well just get some goats to keep me company.  7. My favorite color is yellow.  8. I taught piano lessons for 8 years before giving birth to our daughter.  9. My husband and I have a band and even recorded a CD.  10. I hate sea food.  11. I probably have over a thousand vintage sewing patterns sitting around in my house.

Now, for my nominations.  A few of these might have over 200 followers, but they deserve even more. 🙂

Farmhouse Garden:  One of my favorite blogs ever.  She sews and homesteads and is a mommy.  She has an awesome Etsy shop too!

Brentwood Lane: Although it looks like they have already received the Liebster Award, I am going to nominate them again anyway.  😉  Brentwood Lane is a blog by three sisters who write about vintage fashion and sewing projects.

Come Further Up:  This blog is dear to my heart.  I believe I started following Clair and her lovely musings back in ’08 or ’09.  I always feel uplifted and blessed after perusing her thoughts.

Sewing Through The Motions: Amy’s blog is fantastic.  Charming, witty, and full of really awesome sewing adventures.  Plus, she is a fellow goat lover. 🙂

In A Goat’s Shoes:  Ok, this blog is awesome.  Especially if you love goats, like I do.

Jennafifi:  This blog belongs to my sweet little sister, Jennifer.  She is such a lovely person, and enjoys writing about her journey of faith, creative projects, and life in a large family.

Relish Living:  Another sister’s blog.  This one is written by my sister Skylar, who is an amazing photographer and poet, and documents her ponderings artistically through her blog.

{Mom}ents with God: A lovely blog with thoughts and encouragement for the Christian mother.

Eden Hills Blog: Goats, chickens, soap making, homesteading…you get the picture.

Jen of All Trades: Motherhood, homeschooling and sewing. Love love love!

Utterly Blessed Farm: Goats!
